In all four the shared side is very large — concert halls, restaurants, waterfronts, spas — and the private side is reduced to a single guest room. The gaming floor is neither described nor judged.
Casinos are for adults only. In Canada the minimum age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Québec; elsewhere it depends on where you are.

Montreal Casino & Hotel

The gist — Two Expo 67 pavilions on an island hold the public rooms, with a small hotel beside them
What is shared — Pavilions built for Expo 67 give the complex its shape, and their sloping levels are linked by escalators and long ramps. Restaurants, bars, a cabaret stage and terraces occupy those levels, and the island paths outside run along the St Lawrence with the city skyline across the water.
What is yours — Sleeping is set apart from all of that, in a hotel building on the same island with rooms of ordinary hotel size. A room has a bed, a desk, a bathroom and a window turned either to the river or to the parkland of the island, and it is reached from a plain corridor.
Where the line falls — A guest room door on a quiet corridor draws the line. On one side stand ramps, halls and terraces measured in hundreds of metres, and on the other a single room with its own window, and the change happens in one step.
Settle in advance — Settle the crossing to the island in advance, because Île Notre-Dame is reached by bridge or metro rather than on foot from downtown.

Fallsview Casino Resort
Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
The gist — The resort stands on the escarpment above the falls and turns its public rooms toward the water
What is shared — Public space runs along the cliff edge in one long sequence: a theatre seating several thousand, restaurants with glass walls facing the gorge, a spa, and a shopping galleria that connects the resort to the street above. Terraces and window seats are placed so that the falls stay in view from most of that length.
What is yours — Guest rooms occupy a tower set back from the edge. Each has a bed, a bathroom, a desk and a window, and rooms on the water side look down the gorge from a height. Nothing of the public sequence continues into them, and the corridor outside carries no function of its own.
Where the line falls — Height is where the line falls. The shared rooms sit at the level of the cliff and the guest rooms sit far above them, so a lift ride separates a hall built for crowds from a room built for one party.
Settle in advance — Settle the climb in advance, as the resort stands well above the river and the walk up from the water is steep.

River Rock Casino Resort
Richmond, British Columbia, Canada
The gist — A resort on the Fraser River keeps a marina, a show theatre and restaurants on its public side
What is shared — Water gives this resort its public edge. Vancouver airport lies close enough that aircraft cross the sky through the day. A marina and a boardwalk run along the Fraser arm, and inside the building a show theatre, a group of restaurants, a spa and wide lobbies carry the daily traffic.
What is yours — Guest rooms sit in two towers above that ground. A room has a bed, a bathroom, a desk and a wide window, and the higher floors look across the river arm toward the mountains on the North Shore. Access is by lift from the main lobby and then along an ordinary carpeted corridor.
Where the line falls — The lift lobby is the hinge. Below it the resort is a public building with a waterfront attached, above it the same footprint is divided into single rooms, and one set of doors marks the whole difference.
Settle in advance — Settle the route from the airport in advance, since the resort has its own rapid transit stop and driving adds a bridge crossing.

Casino Rama Resort

The gist — On Chippewas of Rama First Nation land by Lake Couchiching, the public rooms hold a concert hall
What is shared — A concert hall of several thousand seats anchors the shared part, together with a group of restaurants, a spa and a golf course laid out on the surrounding land. The resort stands on the territory of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation near the shore of Lake Couchiching, and much of the ground around it is open country.
What is yours — Two hotel wings hold the guest rooms, and a room there has a bed, a bathroom, a desk and a window over the golf course or the woods. The wings are quieter than the rest of the building because they carry nothing except rooms and the corridors that serve them.
Where the line falls — A corridor in the hotel wing is the boundary. Walking it takes a guest out of a building sized for a concert audience and into a room sized for two people, without any intermediate space between the two.
Settle in advance — Settle the drive in advance, because the resort lies outside Orillia and the last part of the route runs on country roads.
